Apple in dilemma after ditching Qualcomm to choose Intel as their 5G hardware supplier

Apple recently ditched Qualcomm to opt for chipmaker Intel as their 5G hardware supplier. The iPhone giant had long been in a state of dispute with Qualcomm. Apple then disclosed that they won’t be manufacturing any 5G device until 2020 for the least.

However, a recent report claims that the company is having a tough time acquiring the components needed to manufacture a 5G device.

A recent report released by industry-leading research firm Cowen Research claims that Apple has joined hands with Intel for the acquisition of modem products. The report further states that Apple has 4 options to address the issue, though none of the four is ideal in true sense.

As per a report published recently by Bloomberg, Apple might acquire a 5G modem from their arch rival Samsung, but the acquisition is likely to be reached only through “tough commercial terms.”

Another option for the iPhone giant is to make peace with Qualcomm; however, it could already be too late for Apple. Lastly, the Cupertino giant could take a brave move to ditch every modem manufacturer and, instead, develop the necessary 5G components in-house. However, the option might cost Apple big time in terms of expenses associated with 5G component manufacturing.
