Sprint to roll out 5G mobile network in parts of US

Sprint set to roll out 5G mobile services in coming weeks

There’s a lot to watch out for at the Google I/O conference. While Qualcomm has joined hands with Google to escalate the deployment of 5G in Android Q, Sprint is also gearing up to roll out its 5G NR connectivity that will power Android application developers at the conference.

Google I/O is likely to witness Sprint 5G with apps running on LG’s V50 ThinQ 5G, the first 5G-capable smartphone running on Sprint, the annual developer conference of Google at the Shoreline Amphitheater.

With 54.5mn subscribers, Sprint is the fourth-largest telecom operator in the US. The carrier has deployed Ericsson 5G Massive MIMO radios for delivering over-the-air dual-connectivity that flaunts 40 MHz of 2.5 GHz over 5G NR and 60 MHz of 2.5 GHz over LTE.

The carrier, which is awaiting its merger with T-Mobile, recently revealed that it makes use of dual-connectivity (EN-DC) technology for delivering 5G and LTE on devices.

Demos on the LG V50 ThinQ 5G consist of YouTube 4K video streaming, augmented reality, and gaming – as revealed by Ryan Sullivan, Sprint’s VP of Product Engineering and Development.

In a major announcement, the carrier said that it will start rolling out 5G mobile services in parts of Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, and Chicago during the coming weeks. Also, Sprint 5G will be available in New York City, Phoenix, Washington DC, Houston, and Los Angeles by the end of the next month.

The carrier expects to initially cover over 1,000 square miles with its 5G services across all the 9 markets.

Sprint’s 5G services will soon be available on 5G-capable phones such as HTC 5G Hub, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G, and LG V50 ThinQ.
